Koyo Training VehicleLooking for inexpensive bearing training that can be done at your location?  The Koyo Training Vehicle brings it right to your doorstep, free of charge—and it can even be customized to your operation or industry.

What is the Koyo Training Vehicle (KTV)?

The Koyo Training Vehicle (KTV) is a state-of-the-art, 40 ft. training vehicle specially equipped to deliver hands-on training in basic bearing maintenance and repair.  It teaches basic “bearings 101” techniques to engineers, maintenance staff, purchasing staff, and even managers.

“It’s a unique, innovative ‘classroom on wheels,’” said Tim Zerger, the Business Group Director of Bearings/Power Transmission at IBT Industrial Solutions.  “It travels through all 48 states helping Koyo to train IBT’s employees and customers.  Our customers who have used it have learned very valuable information about bearing maintenance.”

How does the KTV work?

The current KTV vehicle was commissioned in 2008, and logs 40,000 miles/year traveling across the U.S. to teach people about proper bearing maintenance.  It parks directly at your site, where up to 25 people can board the air-conditioned vehicle to get hands-on training by certified Koyo engineers and sales personnel in:

  • Bearing performance
  • Best lubrication practices
  • Failure analysis
  • Handling and storage tips
  • Preventive maintenance
  • Design/application

The vehicle comes complete with several bearings that participants can touch and feel, plus a bearing setting rig, fit demonstrator, and induction heater.

“The KTV has specialized equipment onboard that you can use to learn how to identify and measure bearings,” Zerger said.  “You’ll see actual examples of failed bearings, what they look like, and what caused them to fail.  Additional equipment teaches you how to properly install and remove bearings, to give them the maximum operating life.”

Customized to your environment

“This training is not only fun and practical, but it can also be completely customized to your specific industry or application,” said Jaime Lox, the Marketing Manager for Koyo Bearings North America.  Recently, the Koyo team has customized the training for a wide variety of environments, including:

  • Agriculture
  • WarehousingKoyo Training Vehicle
  • Manufacturing
  • Aerospace
  • Automotive
  • Machine tool
  • Electric motor repair
  • Steel
