Video Wows Chamber Audience

For 119 years, the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce has held an annual gathering to mark the community's progress, forge a vision for the days and years ahead, honor leading citizens for their contributions to the community and break bread together in a celebratory manner.

2006 was no exception. The annual dinner meeting of The Chamber was held Tuesday, November 21 at Hyatt Regency Crown Center. An impressive audience – 1,600 citizens – filled the city's largest hotel ballroom.

Former Chief Executive of Kansas City Power and Light, and current Senior Counsel at the law firm of Shughart Thomson & Kilroy, Drue Jennings was honored and received The Chamber's Kansas Citian of the Year award.

Also, once again, the video was produced by IBT Media. This year's title was A Dynamic Community, Driven by the People.

"Last year the theme of our video was the progress and the construction that was happening all over the extended metropolitan area. For that, our crew shot construction projects and a variety of events," IBT Media manager Craig Campbell observes.

"This year, we focused more on people. We put in nearly as many hours – and traveled nearly as many miles. But, instead of crowds and cranes, we focused on faces and personalities."

Each of the two approaches presented certain challenges, Campbell explains.

"The construction and progress required us to be at the right place when interesting things were happening. Timing and weather could sometimes complicate things. In addition, we faced making various construction projects look unique and be interesting. Photographing people gave us a different set of considerations.

"We had to allow their style and personality to come through to the audience. And, we had to make them natural, which is not always easy to do when our High Definition camera crew is on the scene.

"But, based on the strong audience response – and the nice things our subjects said to me, we must have gotten it just right."
