Integrated Services: Making It Easier
"Keep your eye on the ball." This is what dads and coaches stress over and over with young athletes.
In baseball, keeping your eye on the ball gives you a chance at getting a hit when at bat - and lowers the likelihood of a hot grounder or fly ball getting by you.
As a general life lesson, beyond the realm of sports, it is a pretty good instruction to keep in mind. Keep your eye on the ball, and you will be concentrating on the most important elements of what you are doing.
In manufacturing, keeping your eye on the ball means getting the most production and the productivity from your facility. If you take care of the productivity, things will be fine, won't they?
Or will they?
That's why it is important to have friends like IBT's Integrated Services Group (ISG) on your side.
ISG, providing a full roster of supply chain-related services, allows its clients to keep their eye on the ball.
The clients are able to keep their attention focused where it should be for a simple reason: ISG has got their back.
ISG is looking at the things that will enable a facility to achieve gains in productivity and ROI.
ISG can apply technology, like its Computerized Maintenance Management Software program (CMMS) to prevent emergency downtime.
They can focus on having the right material on hand and that it has been obtained at the right price.
Through electronic communication, ISG allows its clients to create opportunities for automatic replenishment, summary billing, automated reconciliation of payables and electronic funds transfer to the vendor. Steps like using barcodes on work orders, plant equipment, inventory items, issues, receiving and cycle counting can also reduce errors and yield more accurate and timely information.
"We bring diverse and in-depth levels of experience and expertise to our clients," explains Trevor Finger, VP, Integrated Services Group. "They are not likely to have the staff resources - both in time and technique - that IBT ISG can offer. We help them with vendor management, inventory management and process management - and we use technology to control the information from the whole supply chain. Where new systems are appropriate, we work with the client to implement them. Where training is needed, we handle that, too."
ISG acts as the client's partner. Their work reduces processing costs yielding their clients improved cash flow through better inventory management, better trained employees managing the processes, automated procedures for accuracy and expedited processing time.
It all adds up to client companies finding that their money is working harder, their people are working smarter and they are getting better ROI.
"The end result is a streamlined process with lower costs. Expected results can include improved cash flow through better inventory management, better trained employees to manage the processes, automated procedures for accuracy and expedited processing time leading to lower costs and higher value.
"One of the reasons we find that our approach works is a simple one: this is what we do. Manufacturers and other processors, logically, focus on getting product out the door. All the activities that don't contribute to making that happen are seen as peripheral. Their emphasis, their specialization, their expertise and their motivation is production.
"Ours is the logistics and support side of the job. That is where we live. We seek, specify, find, procure, receive, handle, stock, pick, ship and deliver thousands of items each and every day of the week.
"So, the ISG process brings specialization, concentration, rationalization, systematization and enthusiasm to the job. It can only work better than the somewhat neglected treatment that these areas frequently receive in an organization."
Finger reports that the ISG concept is an extremely flexible one. It is built on the belief that custom solutions work better than off-the-shelf pat answers. As a result, ISG starts with an evaluation plan, and then develops the right program or programs that fit an individual client's precise needs.
"There are six categories that are potentially improvable factors in a total MRO supply chain - reduced inventory investment, improved vendor management, reduced procurement costs, improved process management, improved maintenance management and improved technology management. ISG will develop an understanding of how these processes operate in your organization - and how they affect your efficiency and profitability. This understanding is critical to improving the process," Finger concludes.
Finger invites any interested companies to find out more. ISG has field service/account management operatives in various locations throughout the U.S. - and they will provide full information on how we can help clients receive a better ROI (Return on Investment).
