Motoman Robot Offers Flexibility

Today's robots do amazing things: they assemble, paint, weld, palletize, tend machines, remove material and even change their own end of arm tools (EOAT). However, most robot manufacturers use generic robots to perform all of these tasks. IBT has established a relationship with Motoman Inc., in part because Motoman offers application-specific robots specifically designed to optimize performance in a particular application. For example, Motoman has EPL-series "Expert Palletizing" robots such as the five-axis EPL80 robot with an 80 kg payload that provides a high-performance, compact palletizing solution that can service multiple infeed conveyors and a single pallet loading station.

Motoman also offers unmatched performance in general-purpose robots such as the HP-Series “High Performance” models. An HP50 robot was part of the robotic machine tending demonstration during the recent IBT TECH X 500.

The Motoman HP50 robot demonstrated a flexible solution for automatic tending of either a machine tool and stamping press. The HP50 robot has six axes of motion and a minimal footprint. It can be placed close to machines to minimize floor space requirements.

The performance specifications for the HP50 robot show that its versatility and effectiveness are complemented by industry-leading accuracy and repeatability. The robot has an effective payload of 50 kg (110.3 lbs), a horizontal reach of 2,046 mm (80.5 in.), a vertical reach of 3,547 mm (139.6 in.) and a repeatability of ± 0.07 mm (± 0.003 in.).

Expanding the capabilities of Motoman robots is their advanced NX100 Controller. The NX100 allows up to four robots to be controlled from a single teach pendant. The NX100 has been transformed from a robot controller into a robust system-level cell/robot controller. Technologically advanced, the NX100 controller provides significant cost savings at the system level, while also decreasing system complexity and improving overall system reliability. Motoman is backed by a powerful parent -- Yaskawa Electric Corporation of Japan, one of the world's largest manufacturers of industrial robots and the world's leading provider of numerical control products, AC servo motors, drives, and inverters. Yaskawa was the first and is still one of only two robot manufacturers worldwide that uses robots to build other robots.

When you need a solution - not just a robot - you need Motoman. Motoman Robotic Solutions packaged with IBT turnkey material handling expertise make a winning combination for efficient production and consistent quality. This ensures a quick return on your investment - something thousands of other companies have already discovered. With over 160,000 Motoman robots projected to be installed worldwide in 2006, the company has the products and experience to automate your processes successfully.

NX100 controller features a Windows® CE programming pendant that includes fast processing, easy to use INFORM III programming language and robust PC architecture. A color touch-screen display can be configured as a custom HMI with buttons and status indicators.

Dual-channel safety features include enhanced E-Stop functionality, integrated speed monitoring, manual brake release switch and compliance with the ANSI/RIA R15.06-1999 safety standard.

The NX100 controller also offers unmatched connectivity through standard Ethernet and other network options: DeviceNet, ControlNet, Profibus-DP and EtherNet/IP.
