ISG: The Cumulative Effect

In our personal lives, I'll bet we all have those nagging backlogs of tasks that we know we need to get to, someday - and the sooner the better. Maybe it's finishing the reorganization of the basement or the garage storage system.
Typically, these are tasks that are important but not critical. If you procrastinate on mowing the lawn, for example, it shows, gets worse and soon becomes more and more difficult to accomplish.
These backlog tasks don't necessarily get any worse. And, sad to say, they don't get done by themselves. What does sometimes happen is that some outside event makes them suddenly critical AND urgent. Usually, it is when it is time to find some obscure item hidden among the general "junk", we start looking and realize that is it just as easy to do the basic reorganization task as it is to find the "needle" hiding in the haystack of "stuff." So, we often use that stimulus to get the main part of the work accomplished.
If you are like most of us, however, the job you do on the assignment when you finally do get to it is neither thorough nor complete.
The final phase of the process is the vow to oneself that "next time, I won't wait so long and have to go through all of the aggravation again." And, then, of course, that change rarely happens.
Despite what might be pointed out by friends, siblings, mates or neighbors, we are not inherently lazy and we do have the best of intentions. It is just that the immediate pressures of every day life can get in the way.
Work is not much different than home, sometimes. The big difference is that, at work, you can get in bigger trouble with management by not taking care of some of these nagging back-logs than you can get with your mate by letting them go at home.
