Jimmy Crack Corn

Feed lots process lots of corn for fodder. By processing the kernels through a press, they become easier for the animals to eat and properly digest.

There are a number of devices that have been employed to achieve this processing of the corn to a cracked feed, but one of the most interesting solutions involves hydraulic equipment. The key distinction of the design, however, is that is uses little energy.

This is accomplished through a design by Hydronic, a maker of air driven hydraulic pumps and power packs.

The principle design uses air, not electricity, to provide power. In addition, the concept is clamping force: pressure is applied and passively held.

In the case of grain cracking, the equipment maintains a standard distance between two rollers, one movable, one fixed. The rollers apply the pressure, but as long as the gap between them stays at the prescribed level, no additional energy is required.

Other applications for the Hydronic product line include crimpers, jigs and fixtures for work holding, tire molding, wire forming machines, steel mills, corrugated factories and sawmills.
