Conveying Fiberglass
At a large fiberglass plant in a southern state, they have a machine that squishes enough fiberglass insulation to fill at least a whole wall of your house down to a size that will fit into a 24x24x48 inch plastic bag.
IBT Engineering Services, working in conjunction with a leading fiberglass equipment company, is building a conveying system that moves those bags through the plant and out for final processing.
The conveying system, using Hytrol® components, handles four bags per minute from 6 different production lines. The fundamental traffic pattern is to consolidate product from several sources, leading to an orderly flow through the plant.
The project is complex, in that it involves numerous sections of conveyors, assembled together into a working system. However, it is not especially complicated, as it involves only four different models of Hytrol conveyor product, of different lengths.
The main workhorse is the TL slider bed belt conveyor. It has rugged, heavy-duty construction and is ideally used for long applications. For this plant, TL conveyor lengths range between 6' 4" and 41' 4". The total length of these units is more than 435 feet.
The system also includes six Hytrol Model 19GSR Gravity Roller Conveyors, 42" wide, and six 190-LRSS live roller spur conveyors. These are used in converging the fiberglass from the various packing stations.
The final component is a total of twelve 45 degree Transnorm TS1500-140 Powered Belt Curve Conveyors. Some of these operate in a right hand direction, some are left handed.
