Designate zones of safety and security. Protect work areas or robotic cells. Create buffer zones for automated guided vehicles. Keep people away from where they should not be. STI's new OptoShield OS3100 laser light safety scanner, available from IBT, makes it easier than ever.

Designed and manufactured in the USA, the new STI OS3100 OptoShield is an advanced safety laser scanner. It uses harmless laser light to sense an intrusion into a guarded area. OptoShield can be configured for multiple, irregularly shaped hazardous areas, making it an excellent choice for safeguarding work cells, transfer lines, robot stations, and automated guided vehicles.

It's the only laser scanner with patented intrusion indicators for instant visual feedback, and it provides diagnostic communications never before available in safety scanners.

OptoShield is also simply the most intuitive, easy-to-use, laser light safety scanner available today. The configuration software program makes setting up the guarded zone incredibly easy and configurable to almost any possible guarding configuration. The software has the look and feel of familiar office applications. You can easily learn how to use it today and remember how to use it months from now.

Operators love it for its efficiency, as they can see where the intrusion is and clear it immediately.

"We believe the introduction of the OptoShield represents an important product and underlying technology for STI in our quest to be a 'one-stop' supplier of automation safeguarding products and services," commented Joseph J. Lazzara, President and Chief Executive Officer. "Safety laser scanners are an important tool for the resolution of area guarding problems around machinery and automatic guided vehicles."

OptoShield provides diagnostic communications never before available in safety scanners. These include a two-digit numeric display, four standard LED status indicators and patented Intrusion Indicators that identify where the safety zone is encroached without the need for difficult diagnostic searches.

OptoShield is the only intrusion detection device whose visual indicators allow the operator to quickly and accurately identify the site of an obstruction without the use of a laptop or an external computer display. This greatly reduces recovery time.

This small optical sensor uses pulsed laser light to scan its surroundings. Through user defined settings they monitor a predetermined area for intrusions, making them a very effective safeguarding device in stationary use such as guarding a robotic work cell, or mobile use such as guarding the front or rear of an automated guided vehicle (AGV).

STI's patented Intrusion Indicators let you know immediately where the intrusion is...and when it is cleared! OptoShield from STI is the only laser scanner available today that offers this important feature. Whatever the obstacle is, users can see where it is and immediately clear it - on both stationary and moving applications.

You can change guarded areas quickly and on demand. Application and work cell needs change. For increased shop efficiency, the OS3100 enables users to have two completely separate detection sets. Now users can anticipate the different requirements and simply change the guarding set on demand. Best of all, each detection set has both a user-defined safety zone and warning zone.

FAST FACTS:
  • Safety range of 4 m radius
  • Intrusion indicators immediately identify where the safety zone is encroached.
  • Two separate detection sets (each with one safety zone and one warning zone) can be externally selected.
  • Configured via easy-to-use software.
  • Two PNP safety outputs designed to directly switch machine primary control elements (MPCE) at 625 mA, 24 VDC
  • Auxiliary output for Warning Zone
  • Two-digit numeric display for diagnostic codes
  • LED indicators for status and diagnostics
  • Adjustable response times, as fast as 80 ms
  • EDM/MPCE monitoring
