Photogenic Kansas City Has Its Close Up

Since before St. Patrick's Day, IBT Media manager Craig Campbell has been running around gathering video footage of people throughout the Kansas City area having fun. He and his team have been on assignment for the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce.

"We've been to parades, sporting events, art fairs, outdoor events. We've filmed construction projects, civic monuments, new buildings, transportation. We went to the soybean harvest and The American Royal Barbecue Competition. In Kansas City in the last eight months, pretty much, you name it, we shot it"

The job: capture KC at its best and Kansas Citians at their leisure in high definition TV - then use it to make the city, The Chamber, and the people proud of their home town.

"We were selected because of two main considerations: our experience in gathering a wide range of visual material and, more importantly, our high definition equipment. The use of HD, especially shooting it at 24 frames per second, gives the look and feel of film. This turns our finished project into something much more than just a newsreel about the year. Our presentation becomes a mini-movie about Kansas City and we expect the impact to be noticed and draw much favorable reaction for The Chamber."

The filming is one thing. The post-production can be a whole other experience. The challenge for John Naughton, IBT Media editor was in the final stages. His task: turn more than seven hours of raw footage into five minutes of poetry, humor, patriotism, civic pride, enlightenment, fun and magic.

With the arrival of the Chamber's 118th Annual Dinner on Tuesday. November 22, at The Hyatt Regency Crown Center Hotel, The Chamber and Craig's moment of truth arrives.

The stakes are high. Expectation is extreme and the track is fast. Headlining the entertainment is acclaimed comedian Robert Klein. A distinguished citizen will be named Kansas Citian of The Year. The leading lights of Kansas City business and civic society are out for the evening, dressed in their finest and ready to be dazzled and entertained.

That night, the five minute presentation draws an extended ovation from the crowd at the Hyatt Regency Crown Center.

"The high-definition video that IBT produced for The Chamber's Annual Dinner Meeting was, in a word, fabulous. The sound, the images, the editing, everything was beautifully done and added immeasurably to our evening program. The IBT staff exceeded our expectations - they blew us away!"
--Pete Levi, President, Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce
