Lovejoy Beats Bad Vibes
Lovejoy has a new line of grid couplings that reduce vibration by as much as 30 percent. The couplings, part of the 1000 Series, also cushion shock loads and compensate for parallel, angular and axial misalignment. The 1000 Series Grid couplings come in 19 standard model sizes with nominal torque ratings up to 1,500,000 in.-lb. These Grid couplings are also fully interchangeable with industry standard grid couplings.
The ability to withstand harsh and caustic cleaning cycles and yet not rust is important in many industrial applications. The food processing industry in particular requires a heavy-duty coupling with minimal maintenance requirements that will stand up to these stresses. Lovejoy even offers the 1000 Series with an optional protective coating, that helps comply with strict USDA guidelines.
From brew kettles to mash tubs, bottling, canning, cereal cookers and the baking industries' dough mixers, food plants have learned to rely on Lovejoy couplings. The 1000 Series Grid coupling also services many needs within the lumber, aggregate, paper, rubber and oil industries, with multiple potential applications for metal rolling mills as well.
All Lovejoy 1000 Series Grid couplings are available with horizontally split or vertically split covers. The horizontal split, designed for limited spaces and reversing shafts, allows easy access for grid lubrication or replacement. Vertical split covers, made from stamped steel, are ideal for higher operating speeds. Regardless of cover type, hubs and grids are identical and interchangeable within given size ranges.
All Lovejoy 1000 Series Grid coupling models handle parallel, angular and axial misalignment between shafts. Grid flexibility accommodates up to 0.022-inch of parallel offset. Under angular misalignment up to 0.25°ð, a rocking and sliding action of grid and hubs permits smooth operation without any loss of power. The 1000 Series Grid coupling construction also forgives minor axial shaft movement, allowing end-float of both driving and driven shafts as the grid slides freely in the grooves.
Snap-in grid eases installation and replacement efforts. All-metal design ensures reliable operation and long service life in relatively high ambient temperatures and the presence of certain oils or chemicals.
