Pavilion Provides Refuge From Rain for IBT at Golf Tourney
Updated: July 5, 2005
The Bayer Advantage Class Golf Tournament was scheduled for 54 holes of stroke play but, once again, the Kansas rainy season shortened it to only 36 - actually 37 - as Dana Quigley took the win away from Gil Morgan and hometown favorite Tom Watson on the first play off hole, Monday June 13.
Rain was a constant factor all week, eliminating Saturday's play and interrupting Sunday's competition. The rain, however, failed to dampen the spirits or compromise the enthusiasm of IBT or its customers and vendors who took full advantage of the week-long event.
In full cooperation with vendors SKF, Goodyear, Siemens and Rockwell Automation, IBT hosted a stream of friends at their hospitality site located on the eighteenth green of the Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate, Overland Park, Kansas.
Rain was a factor on the prior Tuesday, as well, but that was a better day for Tom. Watson and KU hoops coach Bill Self prevailed over Jim Colbert and George Brett in the Roberts Dairy Skins Game. Weather shortened that event from nine holes to four.
Self and Brett joined the celebrants at the IBT Pavilion during the rain delay for the Skins Game, spending an hour or so pressing the flesh and visiting with old friends. Brett is a long-time friend of IBT and many of the customers have enjoyed his company in the past.
With rain affecting the tournament play, the hospitality facilities were put to good use. Prom Catering, a major national food service supplier for the PGA, offered a variety of imaginative and delicious food and beverage options throughout the week. The additional benefit of the shelter and air-conditioning also scored many points with guests and hosts alike.
With the fate of next year's tournament still pending renewal by Bayer as the main sponsor, the immediate future is not clear. But, IBT's positive experience should lead to a return engagement.
Original story - May 10, 2005:
Foursome Teeing Off at Bayer Advantage Classic
Some people say it's the exercise. Others swear by the mental and physical challenge. To still others, the key is the competition- competing with yourself and the other players.
But, the real truth of why golf exerts its magic spell might be the companionship: going around the links with the other players and sharing the fun, the excitement, the exasperation, the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.
When IBT heads out to Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate for the Bayer Advantage Classic Golf Tournament, it is taking a foursome:
SKF,
Rockwell Automation,
Goodyear and
Siemens.
These four distinguished companies are longtime partners in distribution with IBT and the company is very pleased to be enjoying the golf tourney with them.
On the golf course, it will be an interesting competition. The Champions Tour has been offering unusually exciting competition, and The Bayer Classic should be no exception. As of May 1, the money leaders are:
