ISG: Dream Team
Every sports fan and every coach has a vision of a dream team. It is a lasting desire to put together a group of individual performers who, when fielded as a unit, not only dominate the competition but also push the boundaries of the whole game.
Some dream teams have actually been assembled, most notably in Olympic basketball competition. They have achieved some success but in other cases the results have been less outstanding.
The concept of a dream team need not be limited to sports. Other fields of endeavor also may present situations that offer the possibilities of assembling the right people with the right stuff and the right chemistry. The goal is to build an organization that is awesome in its own right, dominating in the competitive environment and, most importantly, terrifically effective in accomplishing the work needed and redefining the standards of the game itself.
Business units can have these wishes, too. In some cases, managers actually get a chance to fulfill those wishes.
This, in many ways, is what is happening at Integrated Services Group (ISG) of IBT.
ISG is in an evolving -- but in business endeavor's definition, it is experiencing phenomenal growth leap into a market expansion that goes beyond normal human capital additions relative to growth standards. It has a marked shortage of experienced talent, a situation that has driven the company to hire full time recruitment services.
They looking hard for new people. But, not just any new people -- special people.
They have looked for -- and have been finding -- top performers to join the organization and make up the evolving dream team.
Like any good sports team, different positions require different skills. ISG has been pursuing people at operational, site management, account management and national management levels.
They are placing site managers in manufacturing facilities to take day-to-day control of the supply chain related tasks, especially in connection with MRO.
The players they have been recruiting for these positions have all had serious experience at keeping plants operating, while controlling costs: down time, inventory, wasted resources, labor.
At higher level positions, ISG recruits have achieved management level and have also tended to have earned post graduate degrees in management or science and/or engineering.
Operations people and customer service specialists are dedicated to assuring the smooth running of an ISG client's MRO logistics. They actively take control of the inventory management process -- making sure that only the right goods are on the shelf -- and basing stocking levels on calculated consumption rate. They also have the critical role of inputting the "right fit" as an ISG leader, to administer and execute the scope of the relationship with the client.
They also deal with hardware, software and logistics involved with integrating the data from an individual site and combining the aggregated information from a client company's complete chain of locations.
On-site players help complete the process. They have effective control of the physical inventory and provide consistent feedback as to what is needed, what is being used, new items and obsolete items.
The upper levels communicate with client management, keeping them advised of the current situation and helping identify future and additional needs.
IBT's ISG has been using trained and experienced MRO planners and product sales specialists.
The best people, they find, are those who have first hand, hands on experience with keeping downtime under control and being able to operate in an environment that values urgency, thoroughness, anticipation of problems, quick resolution of them -- and the imagination to develop innovative solutions to solve unexpected emergencies.
Many of the people ISG that are being selected for new assignments have come up through the ranks of IBT or similar companies that are or have been directly focused on executing and operating different clients in integration needs.
They have been polished and tested by hard work and the IBT training regimen. They understand the importance of such concepts as Kanban (just in time), and can use an entire expanded toolbox of methods that reduce waste and inefficiency in supply chains.
As ISG grows and adds clients and associates, their need to further expand the team increases. If you would like more information about ISG, its services, or the job situations currently available, please contact us.
