IBT Electrical Academy 210: Arc Flash for Managers
Arc flash kills. Even when it doesn't, it seriously injures and maims the victims. In the aftermath of an arc flash, medical and legal expenses can easily exceed $1 million.

This is not a rare event, sadly. Every day five to ten arc flash events occur in electrical equipment in the U.S.

This is a preventable problem. Surveys show that many U.S. facilities are not in compliance with current NFPA 70E standards. If they were, the incidence would, arguably, be lower. In recent years, OSHA has imposed significant fines after investigating arc flash events and has used NFPA 70E standards to determine whether or not employers have acted reasonably to protect workers.

OSHA-imposed fines are only a portion of the cost to industry and society attributable to arc flash events. Exposure in a serious arc flash incident is often a life-altering experience for the person(s) involved and may include serious consequences for their companies.

IBT’s Arc Flash for Managers helps you understand the hazards, issues and responsibilities faced by electrical workers and employers. Course discussion addresses the topic of protection or mitigation.
