In Chanute, Kansas, late February and early March can be extremely mild – or cold beyond belief. And, regardless of the temperature, it is generally a windy place to be.

This year, a team from IBT Belt Services encountered Kansas late winter weather in the mid–twenties, as they worked on a challenging series of jobs while spending two weeks at a cement plant in Chanute.

IBT’s belt work was done during a five week planned shut-down of the plant. The team installed more than one mile of heavy belt. They also made nine vulcanized splices and five finger splices.

The belts were of various styles and sizes.

The cold weather they faced during the whole time they were there was only one aspect of the harsh working conditions. The other concern was the wind. When the crew replaced a 48" wide x 1060' long Dome belt – 60 feet in the air – they encountered wind that gusted to 40 mph.
