An aggregate company in northern Wisconsin hosted IBT Media and a team from Flexco to produce four new belt cleaner installation videos.
Wisconsin is rich with rocks, some of the hardest in the world. Success in rock mining is taking big rocks and making little ones out of them. As you might expect, the equipment that can do that is subject to great stresses and, therefore, requires preventive maintenance.
Conveyors are key in rock mining, and the ones IBT Media went to Wisconsin to videotape benefit greatly from Flexco’s belt cleaners. Without the Flexco cleaners, numerous hours and much bulldozer fuel would be spent collecting runaway rocks and putting them back on the conveyor.
Many challenges beset the installation of a cleaner on a belt that is 67 feet in the air. Safety, structure obstacles and weather are just some of the concerns that the mine staff face every day while doing the work. IBT Media got a strong taste of the hazards during our brief stay at the site.
The new Flexco videos cover the entire installation process, step by step. They depict the various challenges customers will face when installing a cleaner in a surface mine. They also show how to overcome the various challenges and install the equipment easily and properly.
The production had its challenges, as well. It required safety-harnessing the videographer, laying out all the tools and parts needed for installation and focusing the video lens on the gritty work.
Post-production included graphics to help illustrate the process and narration that instructs in the installation. The narration also discusses issues an individual conveyor may present, teaching installers how to avoid costly down time. The videos were encoded for web and authored to DVD. Flexco distributes their training videos on DVD and as downloads from their website.
In working with the client, IBT Media used the Client Sign-in section on the website to enable Flexco to securely download the videos for approval. This helped speed things up and allowed the client to provide oversight without necessarily having to be at the editing sessions.
