"You don't notice how bad things are until they start cleaning things up," is how Bill Sanders, superintendent of store room and maintenance at National Starch & Chemical Co. of North Kansas City, Missouri described his storeroom conditions before IBT's Integrated Services Group (ISG) came on the scene. "The more they clean things up, the more bad things you notice."
ISG was called into the situation to help National Starch overcome their difficulties in maintaining adequate and accurate stocks.
"In some cases, it was a classic situation," Trevor Finger, Vice President of ISG, reports. "They were short-handed and nobody controlled what came in and what went out. As a result, they frequently have to make emergency orders, paying way too much and facing downtime and delays while they were waiting for parts and components to be delivered."
The situation at National Starch's plant was, to be fair, a mess. They had difficulty maintaining any accurate control of what they had, what they were using, what they needed, even how to find things on the shelves.
The turnaround has been impressive, over the six months of the project to date.
One of the outcomes of the North Kansas City project has been the addition of another project for ISG in the Indianapolis plant of National Starch.

If you have a great mess, a lesser mess, or just want to get ahead of the game in your own store rooms, you might find it advantageous to learn more about ISG.
Phil Pope will be happy to explain how they work and why they may be able to help you.
