Timken Race Challenge
There were two competitive events at Tech X 500, with a winner being crowned for best time on each day.

At the Timken Remote Control Race Challenge, a prize was given for fastest time of 4 laps of the mini-track, which went on all day long.

Wednesday's winner was Jason Dalinghaus from Midwest AG-Seneca, Kansas. His time was 18 seconds.(See all the winner pictures below article in the image gallery.)

On Thursday, the winner was Doug Sheppard of ITSI-Kansas City, Kansas, with a time of 17 seconds.

Timken reports that these are unusually fast times, as winners usually clock in at 20 to 22 seconds.

The other competitive event was the IBT Pit Crew Challenge. Competitors were given the opportunity to wield an air-powered impact wrench and asked to remove five lug nuts from a NASCAR vehicle, pull off the racing tire and wheel, replace the tire and wheel, and then tighten the five lug nuts.

"Doing this job requires focus, speed, strength and a strong sense of urgency," IBT's Joe Pascarelli reports. Pascarelli ran the show and timed the Pit Crew Challenge hopefuls throughout the entire Tech X 500 event.

Wednesday's winner was Tony Taylor of Conoco Quarry in Willard, Missouri with 12.9 seconds.

Thursday's winner, and overall champ, was John Green of Tec Fab in Tonganoxie, Kansas. His time was 10.08 seconds.

"We were busy all the time," Pascarelli notes. "We always had people lined up to try their hand, using the Ingersoll Rand-supplied air tools and the car from The Racing Experience. The 'Thunder Gun,' – maximum torque of 625 foot pounds, and maximum speed of 10,000 rpm – is standard equipment for NASCAR pit crews.

"The 'test' was harder than it looked. Although just changing the tire with an air impact wrench isn't all that difficult, doing it in a hurry throws in a whole other element. We had many people score times in the low to mid twenty second range. When John Green racked up his winning time, he was smokin'."

The prize for each winner was a Racing Experience ride along. A fitting reward for speedy people.
